Hello,
Welcome! My name is Yvonne. I have been teaching art to Home Scholed Children for 8 years now.  I would love to have your children join us:)

Before having my own children, who I also home schooled, I invested 14 years into teaching preschool to hundreds of young children in the community. A job that I enjoyed very much. As always, my favorite "subject" to teach was art. I loved it then and I still love it today.

Eight years ago I was inspired to start teaching art for home schooled children. I had always wanted to teach a small group but I was just waiting for that little push to get going. Finally, one day, as a result of a failed field trip I found myself wandering through a local art store with a few other mom's who loved what they were seeing but really didn't know how to begin applying the materials to their children's programs. Ideas began to emerge and develop and after doing a pilot session in the spring of 2011, and taking a few courses in teaching art to children, I set off in pursuit of developing a program of my own.

Since then I have developed several 8 week programs including, Introduction to Art, The Seven Elements of Art, Meet the Masters, Multicultural Art, O' Canada, How Great the Art!, All About Technique, Art in Literature, Mishmash Art for the Fun of It, Art History for Kids Part 1 and Part 2, Drawing and Sketching and Art Basics. Though I will still take requests for certain programs, recent classes have been more general in scope. There is no experience or "prerequisite" necessary for any of my courses.

In addition to full sessions, I also offer one time workshops such as Soap Stone Carving as well as Custom Birthday Parties
and Ladies Night Out events

My teaching style tends to be fairly directed. For me, this means that we are all working on the same project with the same media and practicing the same techniques. Regardless of the subject I am always thrilled to see each child's own interpretation and presentation of it. My hope is that the kids will then take these new techniques home and begin to practice and explore and develop them further.  It has been my greatest reward to have kids come back and show me what they've done on their own.

In all my sessions I try yo expose the kids to as many media and techniques as
I can squeeze in hoping that they will leave with as much hands on experience as possible.
Most projects are completed in each class and I try to send them home ready to be displayed and enjoyed.

Initially, my classes were geared toward elementary grades, though, 3 years ago I began to reserved Friday mornings
primarily for junior high aged kids.
I am not rigid about this so please talk to me if you think your child may want to be in this class.

This year is my 9th year of teaching art classes to home schooled kids. What a fantastic experience it has been. The kids have been such a pleasure to get to know and work with. Together we have learned so much and had such a fun time exploring different arts and media, styles and techniques. Every year I am challenged to research and develop new programs and I am really loving that process.

So far we have learned about art materials and tools, where to buy them and how to care for them. We've learned about line, form, color, shape, texture and value and how these elements are used to affect and develop our work. We have studied the Masters and and attempted pieces in their style. Do you know who Winslow Homer was, or what negative space and positive space is? What about "tooth" and different types of paper? Have you ever heard of Maude Lewis? She's my favorite Canadian folk artist.  I always love to try new things and I am happy to explore requests when possible.

Due to space limitations class sizes are small. I have, however, found this to be an advantage as it offers my students opportunity for lots of personal interaction and instruction as well as provides a warm "homey" environment for them to work in.  This is a great opportunity for your kids to spend time with other home schooled children.
Please take the time to check out some of the projects we have worked on over the years.

I hope you like what you see:)
Thank You

Yvonne
